Trade routes from the Mediterranean were passing here, leading through a fabulously rich country of Colchis, where the Greeks exported cloths, furs, precious woods, gold and other metals. There are legends of the Greek Argonauts, who under the leadership of the hero named Jason went to Colchis to retrieve the Golden Fleece. The myth of the Golden Fleece once again confirms the scientific opinion about the connections between Georgia and Ancient Greece.
